Igeh, was a name associated with late Garba and called often by his family, friends and closest associates, but it has faded over time since his demise about a year ago.
My grandfather Alhaji Muhammadu Ladan, as the Almighty Allah had decreed, passed on years before I was born. I did not get to share a conversation of words with my grandfather; I also never had the opportunity to be in his arms. But he has succeeded in influencing my life in a very positive way. Many of those who happened to know him say he was a respected family man, a professional teacher, a seasoned broadcaster, was humble almost to a fault, and much more.

I am still in pains, shock, agony and could not just believe or even understand what happened on Sunday April 28, 2013, when at about 9am after switching on my phone which had gone down because we had no light Saturday night, I received a strange call from my friend, Yabo Bala, who went round talking, but could not say anything. I insisted that she tells me what happened, but she declined, insisting that I should call home immediately. I became jittery, because for days my thoughts had always been on you Sir, which was why I tried calling your mobile number by 8am Saturday April 27, 2013 but it did not go through, no thanks to “network failure”.

The life and times of Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka (1960 - 2013) will no doubt bear the imprint of her enduring skills as a successful career banker rising to senior management positions in the UBA and Ecobank and high courage as a victorious politician who won her election as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State against all odds. Both as a banker and politician, she would have competed with men for the positions she held. Her ability to win these positions must have been a product of first and foremost her credentials.
