It was only when the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Olusola Obada, once a deputy governor of Osun State, visited Calabar, the Cross River State capital to inspect naval facilities and establishments that Weekend Magazine found out that in 1982 the ministry had embarked on the arduous task of building hospitals for the three arms of service at three locations in the country simultaneously. She said the ministry deliberately spread the locations of these three hospitals for reasons of proximity and strategy. According to her, that of the Nigerian Air Force was constructed in Lagos; Nigerian Army, Kaduna, while that of the Nigerian Navy would be located in Calabar.

The Kashimbilla multipurpose dam has been under construction for the past five years and is scheduled to be completed in 2014 to check the disastrous flooding of the weak volcanic Lake Nyos in neighbouring Cameroon, but now, the dam itself  is posing serious threats to the survival of several indigenous communities in Taraba.
