FCT Council Chairmen to mobilize fans for Eaglets

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Golden Eaglets would not lack any support as they engage their opponents today in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Championship as Chairmen of the six area councils that make up the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have pledged to mobilize their residents to the National Stadium Complex to cheer them to victory.
Chairman of the Chairmen, Mr Joseph Zephaniah told the Chairman of Abuja Sub –seat, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi that they have resolved to do this in other to ensure maximum support for the Nigerian youngsters when they take the pitch against Germany at 7pm on Saturday.
“We have resolved to back our team fully, by providing buses for our people from different Area councils and even buy tickets for them to watch the match. This is a national assignment and we must all join hands together to see that our team is gingered for victory.
“We are the defending champions of this competition; let everyone contribute his or her own quota to see that we retain the Cup”, said Mr. Zephaniah.
The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is made up of AMAC, Gwagwalada, Abaji, Bwari, Kuje and Kwali Area Councils.
Mr. Zephaniah was speaking when the Chairman of Abuja Sub –seat, Chief Ogunjobi and his top officials visited him to solicit the Area Councils’ support for massive public mobilization for fans to attend the matches.
Nigeria play Germany starting from 7pm on Saturday in their first match of the competition, and will then take on Honduras on Tuesday at the same venue before traveling to Bauchi to play Argentina on Friday.
Meanwhile the FCT Minister of state, Mr. Chuka Udom visited the Golden Eaglets at training inside the mainbowl of the Abuja National Stadium on Thursday evening. He addressed the players and promised that the people of Abuja and Nigeria in general are solidly behind them to successfully defend the title
