For guiding Golden Eaglets to the finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Championship, Coach John Obuh has reaped accolades from former NFA presidential aspirant, Hon. Lumumbah Dah Adeh who saluted his technical prowess.
Speaking to Trustsports on the team’s victory, the former member of the House of Representatives said despite the barrage of problems which confronted the coach as he prepared the team for the championship, he has been able to prove that he is technically sound.
Lumumba noted that if not for the technical ability of the coach and the tenacity of character on the part of the players, team wouldn’t have qualified for the finals of the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
“The team has surprised many football fans. I want to give credit to the Chief Coach of the team. He has proved his worth as a coach. Even before now, I knew that he is a good coach but he has used the present assignment to convince me beyond all reasonable doubt that he is capable of achieving something at the highest level.
“I want to salute his courage because he took over the team at a very critical period. The team was beset by a lot of problems but he has navigated his way through and today the Eaglets are back on a winning path. Had he allowed himself to be weighed down by the problems he faced, he wouldn’t have achieved the results which have made him popular among Nigerians at the moment”.
He said even as the team is winning, the coach must not become complacent because there are more rivers to cross before victory would be attained.
“I am impressed with what he and his players have achieved so far but I want to urge them to remain focused. If they get complacent, the story may not be the same again”.
