Zamfara United gets marching order on stadium

Zamfara United FC Gusau have been given the marching order to either improve on the state of the playing pitch at the Zamfara Township Stadium or be ready to move to any of the other stadia approved by the Nigeria Premier League .
Zamfara Township stadium is among the stadia that were given conditional approval before the commencement of the 2009/2010 football season.Other Stadia like Minna Township Stadium, Akure Township Stadium, Ilorin Township Stadium,and Liberty Stadium Ibadan were also asked to upgrade or choose any of the eight centres used for the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup as home ground.
However, report emanating from the secretariat of the NPL indicates that out of the five stadia that were given conditional approval Zamfara Township Stadium is yet to be given final approval.
Already, Liberty Stadium Ibadan, Akure Township Stadium and Ilorin Township Stadium and Minna Township Stadium are said to have carried out the upgrading expected of them and have been certified fit to host matches of the Premier League.
Speaking to Trustsports Thursday in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Premier League, Mallam Alhassan Yakmut said if something urgent is not done to upgrade the Zamfara Stadium pitch, the secretariat may be left with no alternative than to send Zamafara United to another approved stadium.
He said few months back, efforts were made to improve the standard of the pitch but since it has been not been watered for some time now, the pitch has has become worse and not fit to host matches of the Globacom premier League.
“We may ask Zamfara United to move to another stadium because the playing turf in their stadium is below standard. It is too dusty and we can not accept this. During their match against Kaduna United, even the Chairman, Chief Obaseki called to draw my attention to the state of the pitch.
“We have given them few days to get the pitch is shape or be taken to another venue. We can not allow football to be played on such a dusty turf” he stated.
Yakmut in addition expressed happiness with Niger State government which he said has spent over N100m to upgrade the Minna Township Stadium.
