Falconets begin preparation for Germany 2010

As the second round of the continental qualifiers for the 5th edition of the FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup kicks off in various centers across the African continent from 8th to 10th January, 18 Players of Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s team (Falconets) have already assembled at the Capza Hotel camp in Abuja in preparation for next weekend’s cracker against Zimbabwe’s National under-20 Women’s team in Harare on January 8.
According to the Deputy Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation, Abdulbaki Ibrahim, the team has a new technical crew made up of Adat Egan as Chief Coach, Wemimo Oni Olarenwaju as the 1st Assistant Coach and Christopher Alor as the 2nd Assistant Coach.
He disclosed that even as he was not a goalkeeper in her playing days, Former Captain of the National Women’s Team (Super Falcons) Florence Omagbemi is now the Goalkeeper trainer of the Falconets.
The players and their technical crew have commenced training at the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja as part of their build up towards snatching one of the two slots allotted Africa for the global biennial championship scheduled for Germany in 2010.
Other contenders for the slot include: Zambia, Tunisia, Ghana, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria’s Falconets remain the only African team to have participated in every edition of championship since its inception in 2002.
