No fewer than 85 tennis players have been invited to camp by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) for trials to select the country’s representatives to the Delhi Commonwealth Games in October.
NTTF Secretary Segun Oguntade told the News agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that those invited included 10 male and two female foreign-based players.
Oguntade said that 34 male and 29 female home-based players would also compete at the event holding from April 21 to April 23 at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.
Oguntade said that coaches of invited players had been advised to draw up training programmes for them as the selection would be highly competitive.
“Players have been advised to come with their international passports, 12 passport photographs, NTTF players’ licence, playing kits including bats, rubber, towel, training canvas, bed sheets and plates for eating.
“States governments are to take care of their players’ accommodation, feeding and transport during the competition,” he said.
The secretary said that successful players would commence camping immediately after the trials and that the federation would be responsible for their welfare.
He said that the players would have the first phase of their camping from April 25 to May 18.
He advised players and their officials to adhere to the conditions spelt out by the NTTF for the trials as defaulters would be disqualified.
