This was disclosed to Hoops Centre on Thursday by the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Mallam Tijani Umar.
He said after wide consultations, the board agreed to commence the first phase of the female basketball League at the above mentioned venue and date.
Umar said due to its belief in the federation and interest in Nigerian basketball, Zenith Bank has graciously released the sum of N10 million for sponsorship of the female league for the season.
He explained that in as much as the amount is less than the N15m which the organization splashed on the league last year, the federation is grateful because it appreciates the prevailing economic situation especially as it has to do with the banking sector.
“Zenith bank has given us N10M as sponsorship fee for the female League. The amount is less than the N15M we got last season but we understand the present situation of things which the bank is also a part of.
“We are going to sit down and discuss for a possible improvement in the sponsorship fee. Considering the bank’s interest and belief in our activities, we are hoping that there will be an upward review”, he stated.
Umar therefore said all is now set for the commencement of the 2010 Zenith bank female basketball League.
The NBBF president said after the first phase of the league in Kano, the federation will then announce the date and venue for the second phase.
