In an interview with Trustsports after the match, Idoko said results from friendly matches could be deceptive, noting that the best in teams always comes out during tournament proper.
“Friendly matches are build-up encounters aimed at putting teams in shapes and perfecting strategies. So, it may be difficult or deceptive to use results from such matches as yardsticks to measure team’s strength.
“Some players play with cautions in friendly matches, but when it comes to tournament proper, they give their all, knowing full well that at the end of the day, there is something to be won. At that moment, they don’t fear injuries.
“Nigerians should not think that the way their team has played in the friendly matches so far is the same way they are going to play against their World Cup opponents. It is going to be a different ball game entirely when the World Cup kick starts. The best of the Eagles are yet to come.
He expressed happiness at the way the team is improving by the day, saying the chances of the Super Eagles to do well in South Africa are bright.
“There is no doubt about the fact that Eagles have improved from their first match against Saudi Arabia to the last one they played against North Korea. And if the players can continue to work with the Coach and follow his instructions, they will fly high in South Africa,” he predicted.
