Mgbolu Backs Jonathan’s decision to sack NFF Board

Former Spokesman of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFA), Mr. Austin Mgbolu has thrown his weight behind the Federal Government decision to dissolve the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the dismal performance of the senior national team, the Super Eagles at the ongoing World Cup finals.
Mgbolu who served in NFA for almost ten years said the action by the President Goodluck Jonathan to probe and dissolve the board members was justified since they have failed to perform.
The former sports analyst argued that the board members instead of using the little time available to prepare the team for the competition, they were busy planning how to return to the board of NFF because of the goodies they get there.
He disagreed with those saying that government cannot interfere to football matters reminding them that it who pays the piper that dictates the tune adding that even the incumbent Chairman Sani Lulu got to the position as government nominee.
“It is the government that provides the funds and as such has the right to find out if anything is wrong. These people has no prorgramme whatsoever since they assume duties and that is why how football is dwindling,” he pointed out.
He however cautioned the Federal Government not to throw the water away with the
baby explaining that the two year ban would take our football back.
“We are currently at no 25 or so in the world and by the time we come out of the suspension we will be worse for it. What we need do is to start the preparation for the next Nations Cup and World Cup in Brazil now and not by sacking the team. It will affect the country and players plying their trade abroad,” he said.
Also speaking on the ban another sports analyst, Dapo Daramola said he hopes the
EFCC would have invited all the NFF members for interrogation for the
missappropriation of funds.
He explained that uptill now Nigerians have not known what become of the $230,000 that was stolen from the federation and wondered why such case should be swept under the carpet. He asked the government to wield the big stick if they cannot explain how funds were spent at the federation.
