World football governing body, FIFA, have issued the Nigerian government a 48-hour deadline to reverse its decision to withdraw the country’s teams from all competitions for the next two years.
FIFA Secretary-General, Jerome Valcke, said on South African TalkRadio702 Friday morning that Nigeria’s government has 48 hours within which to reverse this decision or risk a ban.
“Nigeria’s government has 48 hours to reverse their decision,” said Valcke.
FIFA launched investigations regarding the decision by the country’s government after Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan said the West African nation pull out from all international competitions for the next two years in a bid to re-organise its football.
FIFA have warned Nigeria they do not brook political interference in football but not yet announced any sanctions against the country.
Nigeria sports minister Ibrahim Bio has defended the country’s position, insisting the country must defend its national interests.
