A football pressure group, known as Football Integrity Group of Nigeria has lodged a petition with President Goodluck Jonathan, demanding the conduct fresh election into the board of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) as directed by the Professor Akin Ibidapo Ob- led NFF Arbitration Tribunal.
Leader of the group, Collins Eselemo told reporters in Abuja that a copy of the petition has already been handed over to President Jonathan at the Presidential Villa for necessary action.
Eselemo, who urged the new leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to expedite action on the rescheduled election, stressed that “as members of the NFF Board that ratified the verdict of the Arbitration Tribunal, there is no need delaying the election any longer”.
Besides, he noted that those scheming for Davidson Owumi to remain in office as the NPL Board Chairman despite the nullification of his election are using the name of President Jonathan to disobey the law.
“I find it most necessary to write you because I know you are not aware of these highly condemnable actions of these people who are throwing your name around the country, claiming that they have your authority and consent to disobey a judicial order of a properly constituted NPL Arbitration Tribunal directing that the NPL chairmanship election should be re-conducted”, he said.
Eselemo also alleged that the relegation of Bayelsa United from the Premier League after the just concluded league season was also informed by the need of the schemers to disqualify a contender to the post Rumson Baribote who is also the chairman of Bayelsa United.
