Oyedeji’s basketball camp produces 20 professional players

Olumide Oyedeji, Founder, Olumide Oyedeji Basketball Foundation, on Thursday in Lagos said that the body’s annual basketball clinic had produced 20 professional players.
Oyedeji stated this at a news briefing to herald this year’s clinic which would hold from Aug. 23 to Aug. 28 at the National Stadium, Lagos.
He said that of the number, eight were playing for the national team.
Oyedeji said that no fewer than 300 children under 17-years-old would take part in the clinic, now in its 10th edition.
He added that the children would register with N1,000 as against the former N500 fee.
He explained that the increase in the registration fee was to control the number of children who would want to participate.
``The clinic is basically to add value to the life of Nigerian youths and also to develop the game from the grass roots.
``I am dedicating this year’s edition to a great supporter of the camp, Rob Meurs, who has always been present at the clinic since inception but died on April 10,’’ Oyedeji said.
He said as a mark of respect for the late Meurs, the camp would hold in Lagos only this year.
Oyedeji assured children, parents and basketball fans that he would continue to sponsor the camp as long as he lived.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2009 edition of the camp held in Osun and Lagos State.
