NBBF dissolves League Board

The Executive Board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF has approved the dissolution of the League Board after the successful conclusion of the 2009/2010 DStv Premier League Season.
The board thanked members of the out-going league board for their dedication to work in the just concluded season.
The 2009/2010 league board held its last meeting in office on Wednesday in Abuja to appraise the just concluded which was rounded off with the Final-8 playoffs won by Kano Pillars basketball club in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and make recommendation to the Executive Board of the Nigeria Basketball ruling body on how to improve the league.
A new league board according to the NBBF Board will be constituted at the end of October as it approved the recommendation of the former league board that the new DStv Premier League Season should commence in November or December 2010 and be rounded-up by May/June 2011.
The Executive Board concluded that the recommendation was in line with international standard as Nigeria strive to realign its league season with the rest of the world.
The Executive Board meeting of the NBBF presided over by the President, Alhaji Tijjani Umar calls for nomination of representatives by clubs from the Atlantic and Savannah conference, Coaches’ and Referees’ council into the league board so that work can start early. The NBBF top-shot said the league sponsor, MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DStv/ SuperSport are pleased with the new arrangement of the Nigerian league being in conformity with the rest of the world.
Umar said the NBBF Board agreed with the suggestion of the former league board on the issue considering the availability of the nation’s home and foreign-based players for national assignment without hindering the DStv Leaue as experienced last season.
The 10-man league board will have one representatives each from clubs in the Atlantic and Savannah conference, the Coachs’ council, Referees’ council, Sponsor, four from the NBBF – two from each of the Atlantic and Savannah conference and the chairman of the NBBF Technical Committee, Muktar Adamu Khaleh as Chairman of the League Board.
