Quit Heartland Ogunjobi tells Siasia

The immediate past chairman, technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has asked the newly appointed Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia to immediately quit his job with Heartland.

Ogunjobi who described Super Eagles coaching position as exalted and enviable told SuperSport.com in Lagos on Thursday that it is an anomaly for Siasia to hold both positions at the same time. He added that the dignity attached to the office makes it imperative for the former Under-20 helmsman to leave Heartland without further delay.

“My own advice to him is to do away with Heartland job. He is now in charge of our Super Eagles, that is the biggest brand in this country and for him to have full concentration on the job he should leave Heartland because Nigerians will not take no for any shortcomings.

“He should leave that job there is no way he can be earning salaries from both sides. He cannot be working for Heartland earning salary and at the same time working for Super Eagles and earning salary also, it is never done anywhere in the world.

“That is the main reason he was employed, if he is in love with Heartland he should not have requested for the Eagles’ job, he should not have put in for Super Eagles job but now we have given him the job he should please respect Nigeria, respect the Super Eagles, that is our passion and what we believe in, that is the biggest brand we have and he should leave Heartland job and concentrate on the Super Eagles.”

Ogunjobi who did not agree to equate the age grade national teams with Super Eagles insisted that the senior national team is the highest brand and must be jealously guarded.

“There is a big difference between Under-17, Under-20, Under-23 and the Super Eagles which is the biggest brand that is the ultimate. The aim and goal of those who are playing in the Under-20 cadre is to come and play for Super Eagles and that is the ultimate.

“You do not expect Capello to be coaching the English national team and at the same time to be coaching Chelsea or Manchester United, we need to respect our national team,” he said.
