Uchegbulam, Josseylad urge Falcons to win AWC

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) former vice president Amanze Uchegbulam is foreseeing a tough duel for Super Falcons when they face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in the final of the 7th Africa Women Championship (AWC) in South Africa.
Nigeria’s campaigner Falcons pummeled the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 5-1 in the semifinal while Equatorial Guinea overwhelmed host South Africa 3-1 to pave the way for the epic final.Both teams met in the semifinal two years ago and Equatorial Guinea came out victorious and went ahead to win her first AWC title.
Host South Africa will face Cameroon in the loser’s match.
Uchegbulam who said that South Africa provides an even platform for both teams to decide the superior side however explained to SuperSport.com in Lagos on Thursday that the Falcons under coach Eucharia Uche is a refined squad that would rather die than allow themselves to be beaten twice by the Guineans.
“It will be a grudged match because 2008 when we lost in the semifinal it was very controversial victory for Equatorial Guinea.
I remember when I protested against the usage of three hermaphrodites and Caf sit on the protest and appealed to me to withdraw the protest and those players are still there.
“But this time around we have a more balanced team and I think it will be very tough, I am convinced that our girls know what is at stake and will not allow Equatorial Guinea that beat them two years ago to stand between them and the cup.”
The chairman, Imo state football association who commended the team for their enviable run in the championship asked them not to lower their guard but wrap up their success story with the trophy.
“I have to congratulate them for having played very well in the championship and getting the berth for the 2011 Fifa World Cup in Germany but they should go ahead to win the cup. I am sure they can make it,” he said.
Speaking with Trustsports in an interview, former coach of the team, Joseph Ladipo (Jossylad), advised the girls to put behind them the lost to the Equatorial Guinea in the last edition of the championship.
“If they play their own game and forget what happened between the two teams two years ago, I am very sure that they are going to carry the day. The match is going to take place at a neutral ground and it provides an opportunity for the Falcons to prove to Africans that the lost to the team two years ago was a fluke,” Jossylad said.
