Nigerian Lady golfers to step up preparation for Botswana 2012

In order to record impressive performances at the Pre- 2012 All Africa Female Golf Challenge, AACT, to be staged in Botswana, the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, LGAN, has promised to begin preparations in earnest.
Speaking at the dinner party organized for the Ladies at the Nicon Luxury,Central Area, Abuja after the dismal outing of the Nigeria’s lady golfers at the 2010 LGAN Open Which took place at the IBB International Golf asnd Country Club in Abuja, the Association Promised to encourage young female Golfers ahead of the Oualifiers.
Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini emerged the overall Champion of the 2010 LGAN Open by playing 148 gross over two days. The 19-year-old golfer played 73 on the first day and 75 on the second day.
South Africa’s Lumien Orton was the runner up gross with 150 played over two days. She was followed by Oumy Dieye of Senegal with 151 gross. The two Nigerian Ladies who played well are Woman Sergeant Rachael Danjuma with 156 Nett while Valentina Mauteau played 172 gross.
The President of LGAN, Mrs Ngozi Osuhor described these results as not satisfactory.
She said the Association will dwell on the performance of 12-year-old Anita Uwadia who won the runner up gross with 194 in the Junior category behind Zambia’s Devanshi Naik who played 158 gross.
Mrs Ngozi said the Association will soon go to some secondary schools in its bid to identif those who are interested in the game of Golf and begin to train them.
She however said the unimpressive performance of the country’s representatives in both AACT and LGAN Championships did not in any way affect both competitions as the Ladies competitors had a good time before and during the tournaments.
She thanked all the Ladies that came from other African countries for both tournaments for their sportsmanship and promised to host more competitions in the future.
