The second edition of Korean Ambassador’s Taekwondo Championship for West African nations will hold in Abuja beginning from December 2 to December 5 at the Indoor sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium.
Addressing the press yesterday in Abuja, the Director of Korea Cultural Centre, Suh, Jeong Sun said the 2nd edition of the annual championship will feature countries like Benin Republic, Cameroon, Mali, Niger, Gabon and the host Nigeria.He said the championship is being organized by the Korea Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Nigerian Taekwondo Federation with LG Electronics as main sponsors.
Sun said 18 gold, 18 silver and 34 bronze medals would be up for grabs in Kyorugi and Poomsae.
He disclosed that while Kyorugi will offer 64 medals to be won by athletes, 6 medals will be up for grab in Poomsae.
The director revealed that each winner of a medal at the championship would be rewarded with LG Cell phone just as he said there will be a trophy for the best team and trophies for the Most Valuable Player in both the male and female category.
Sun said at the end of the championship, the best male and female athletes will be taken on a training tour to Korea by the Korea Cultural Centre.
He expressed confidence that the international championship will serve as s stepping stone to further facilitate the progress of taekwondo demonstration in the West African region.
Sun said taekwondo demonstration by the taekwondo teams of the Korean Cultural Centre and French International School will be a great opportunity to savour the exquisite techniques and movement of Taekwondo.
Meanwhile, the Korean ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Park Young-Kuk and Minister of Sports and Chairman of NSC, Alhaji Ibrahim Bio are expected to grace the opening ceremony.
