Current league leaders, Dolphin Football Club of Port-Harcourt will today entertain visiting Lobi Stars of Makurdi in what can be described as a battle of David and Goliath. While Dolphin are leading the log with 21 points, Lobi are fourteenth on the table with 11 points.
It is going to be a tough trip for Lobi Stars, as they go up against Dolphins, who have the longest winning streak of three games this term.On paper and going by their standing on the table, analysts could give victory to the hosts, but the Makurdi-based side says it is battle-ready and prepare to cause another upset after last week’s away draw to almighty Heartland of Owerri at the Dan Anyam Stadium.
Lobi Stars Vice Chairman Dominic Iorfa told Trustsports by phone that their ego has been bolstered by last week’s away draw at Heartland and they are determined to move up on the table, by improving on their away record.
“That win at Heartland is a turning point in our campaign to move to the top of the league table. We are not going to look back, and with the atmosphere in the team, we will surely improve”, Iorfa stated.
Last season in this same game, it was a 66th minute penalty from striker Emma Nwachi that broke Lobi’s resistance and the same man is still very much in the thick of things for Dolphins.
Apart from Lobi’s 0-0 draw against Dolphin in Port-Harcourt in 2007, both sides have 100 percent victory record at home in the past 8 years.
In other matches, host Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) could climb to the top four or five if they win against Kaduna United.
Last season, in this corresponding fixture, Shooting Stars ran over Kaduna United 3 – 1 and though Maurice Cooreman’s side secured their first away win at Zamfara United, this game hands them a big test.
But Cooreman will bank on Jude Aneke’s return to compliment the good works of Siman Yusuf and playmaker, Sani Aruwa.
