Enugu FA inaugurates referee’s appointment committee

The Enugu State Football Association has inaugurated an eight-man Referees Appointment Committee (RAC) to supervise appointments of referees for matches.
The committee has Paul Okeke as chairman and Monday Nnona as vice- chairman while Francis Ugwu serves as secretary.Others are Dominic Nwobodo, Innocent Obiekwo, Augustine Ozulu, Emma Onah and Tudor Jinedu.
Chidi Ofo-Okenwa, Chairman of the state’s FA inaugurated the committee at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
He explained that the inauguration was in compliance with Article 48 of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) statutes as amended by Articles 42 Caption ‘E’ of 2010.
``I am optimistic that the committee appointed will tackle the problems of refereeing. We intend to engage the referee’s society at local government levels.
``We are also working toward grooming people from the grassroots and train them to become referees because they are product of football in our society,” Okenwa said.
Okeke, Chairman of the committee, told newsmen after the inauguration that it was an enormous task saddled on the committee.
``A lot has gone wrong with officiating matches. We will arrange a training programme for all the referees.
``We will also have inter-society Cooper Test that is expected to be passed,’’ Okeke said.
The chairman explained that part of the training was to ascertain the level of fitness and also retrain referees on laws of the game.
