The Super Falcons will play well to win against Namibia on Sunday so as to keep Nigerian fans happy, team chief coach Eucharia Uche assured on Friday in Abuja.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview that her team needed ``to ensure that Nigerians continue with the happiness of the past few days’’.The coach said she was sure of her team’s capability to ensure this because they had prepared very well for their clash with the
Brave Gladiators, Namibia’s senior women football team.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Falcons are hosting the Gladiators on Sunday at the Abuja National Stadium in a 2012 Olympic Games qualifying fixture.
“We need to keep the smile on the faces of all Nigerians, after the three victories of recent days by the Olympic men’s team and the Super Eagles, and we shall do that because we have prepared very well.
“We are confident we can do that because we have the capability to do it, and by God’s grace we will not let Nigerians down,’’ Uche said.
NAN reports that the Dream Team, the national under-23 men team, had on Saturday in Benin beat Equatorial Guinea 5-0 in a 2012 Olympic Games qualifier.
The Super Eagles had also beaten Ethiopia 4-0 on Sunday in Abuja in a 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier, before going on to beat Kenya 3-0 two days later at the same venue.
“Those victories were good, very heart-warming and encouraging. They will however spur us into doing well, if not better,’’ Uche said.
She pointed out that her team was in good shape for the match after a two-month camping programme of two phases that has now left her with 30 players, including eight foreign-based.
“Our preparations have been carefully-planned to get the best out of all available Nigerian players both home and abroad, and we now have the best of them all in camp for this match.
“They are a mixture of experience and youth, with quality and commitment, coming with the background of playing at various competitions.
“Many of them have been to the World Cup, the Olympics, the African Women Championship, the FIFA World Under-20 and the FIFA World Under-17, and I believe they have all it takes to do Nigeria proud,” Uche said.
