Adepoju urges NFF not to decamp Flying Eagles after AYC

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has urged the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) not to decamp the Flying Eagles after the ongoing African Youth Championship (AYC) in South Africa.
Adepoju made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Nigeria’s qualification for the final of the AYC.He said that with the U-20 World Cup fast approaching, it would be logical to still keep the team together.
He described the team’s qualification for the AYC final as very commendable, considering the state of uncertainty the team found itself in after their 1-0 loss to Cameroon at the group stage.
Nigeria beat Mali 2-0 on Thursday to set up a final with Cameroon who defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties after extra time.
“I congratulate the team for this remarkable feat in the championship.
“Now that they are in the final, we expect them to complete the job by winning the cup on Sunday.
“Winning the cup will enhance our status and ensure that we attend the World Cup as the U-20 Champions of Africa,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Adepoju described the draws for the U-20 World Cup in Colombia which pitted Nigeria against Saudi Arabia, Croatia and Guatemala in Group D as interesting.
The former Racing Santander FC of Spain ace added that the group opponents of the Flying Eagles should not be taken lightly.
“Our preparation for the World Cup should commence without delay now that our first round opponents are now known to us.
“I will advise the NFA not to decamp the team after the AYC.
“Since the World Cup is just around the corner, the team should still be kept in camp for the blending process to continue, Adepoju said.
