Dan Arewa boosts Eagles with $1,000 per goal

Alhaji Dan Arewa made the promise during a chat with sports journalists in Abuja yesterday even as he disclosed that he and his associates a putting together a bigger package should the Eagles win today’s match and qualify for the Nations Cup tournament to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea next January.
He said the gesture was a demonstration of his support and encouragement for the Eagles as they thrive to secure a Nations Cup ticket.
“It’s just a token to express my support for the national team on the cause of Nations Cup qualification. At this moment I urge all Nigerians rally behind the Eagles. We should eschew
our differences and pray for their success. And those of us who have the means should try and motivate them morally and financially.
“The match against Guinea is very crucial for Nigerian football as the country cannot afford to miss out from the 2012 Cup of Nations. It will spell doom for us,” said Alhaji Dan Arewa, who was a personal assistant to the former Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Chairman Col. Abdulmumini Aminu.
He recalled how Nigeria’s failure to reach the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006 affected the development of football in the country and deplored the possibility of another qualification debacle.
“No, In sha Allah, it wouldn’t happen again. We will be at the stadium tomorrow (today) to ginger the Eagles to a massive victory. I will love to see them pump in many goals into the Guinean net. If they score 20 goals, they get 20,000 dollars. The more goals they score, the merrier for the country,” he further said.
He dismissed the fears that monetary pledge from individuals and corporate bodies to the Eagles will bring distraction to the team and affect their performance, saying the players are professionals and know what entails for the country and their careers to beat Guinea and qualify to the Nations Cup.
He added, “It shouldn’t get to a point of that everybody becomes desperate and want to score. The coaches are there to guide them. But football is a team game, regardless of who scores, it’s to the credit of the team. So I don’t think it will be counter-productive to announce pledges of cash donations and gift before the game. It’s part of our goodwill to energize the Eagles to victory.”
Alhaji Dan Arewa also made a donation of $1,000 to the Nigeria Supporters Club to help sensitise and mobilise Nigerians towards ensuring a huge turn-out for today’s match.
Flanked by the Director General of Nigeria Tourism Development Commission (NTDC) Chief Segun Runsewe, who flagged off the Sports Tourism Project, Arewa urged Nigerians to come out en-masse and support the Eagles in today’s crucial Nations Cup qualifier against the Syli Nationale.

The Super Eagles have received another morale booster ahead of today’s all-important 2010 African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea.
