“It is a thing of joy and a great feeling to be home to work, and we will all be working together. I will give all I have to ensure that this football loving nation is back to where it is supposed to be.
“My principle wherever I worked is to give the young ones opportunities to fight for shirts in the national team, and I am going to do the same here, by giving the home-based players the opportunity to showcase their talents and fight for shirts in the national team. This is where I came and I am going to start with the local players”, he stated.
Speaking further, Keshi said he will not use iron hand in instilling discipline in the senior national team.
“As a family man once in a while, you have problems with your children at home, but you keep it at home and don’t take it outside; and if there is any kind of sanction, you do it at home. So, there is always a bad egg, but you try and let him understand what is good”, Keshi concluded.

New Super Eagles handler Stephen Okechukwu Keshi yesterday pledged to work hard to ensure that the country’s football returns to the top in the world. Speaking to reporters during a visit to the Glass House secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Keshi who captained the Eagles to the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title and led the country to her first ever senior World Cup outing at USA 94, said he would spare no effort to achieve the set goal.He also promised to give home-based players the opportunity to fight for places in the new team he intends to build for the country ahead of the Nations Cup and FIFA World Cup qualification games.
