National League hostilities begin today

After been intense planning and preparation, hostilities will resume today in the second tier of the nation’s football league where 36 clubs are vying for honours and a place to the apex league next year.
In Group A, the star match of the week is the tie between JUTH FC of Jos which was relegated from the apex league last soccer season to the lower ranks Maiduguri based El-Kanemi Warriors FC.The Jos derby will no doubt attract attention as El Kanemi which is keen on returning to top flight football next season. El-Kanemi also boasts of the services of an experienced coach in Kelechi Emetole who was recruited this season with a tall order to ensure that the club returns to the elite division.
Elsewhere, former Super Eagle’s winger, Tijani Babangida will have his first baptism of fire as a club manager on Saturday, when his young side, FC Taraba confronts Spotlight FC in a match that the NNL board has requested for confirmation of adequate security from the Kano state FA. Also in Group B, Zamfara United, which lost its place in the Nigeria Premier League at the end of the 2010/2011 season will seek a return to the elite league as they begin their sojourn in the National League against Adamawa United.
There is also a local derby in Jos where new entrants, Giwa FC of Jos will battle for against Plateau United.
The biggest match of Group C will see NPL Chairman, Victor Rumson Baribote’s new club Nembe City FC will file out for the three maximum points against Abia Comets in Umuahia.
But the biggest match of all holds in Umuahia where Abia Warriors and Bayelsa United will trade tackle today.
The match is interesting because while NNL Chairman Chief Emeka Inyama is the chairman of Abia Warriors, NPL boss Chief Rumson Baribote is the Chairman Bayelsa United.
