1,000 athletes for Splash FM/ICPC marathon

No fewer than 1,000 athletes will participate in the Fourth Splash FM and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)-sponsored marathon scheduled for March 18 in Ibadan.
ICPC spokesman Joseph Oguntayo said in a statement on Thursday that the 42-kilometre race would start at 7 a.m. at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.It also said that N2 million would be shared as prize money by the winners at the one-day event.
The statement advised intending participants to submit their completed forms with certificate of fitness from a recognised hospital on or before March 7.
Oguntayo said the completed forms should be submitted to the sports department of the South-West Zone of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Ibadan.
According to Oguntayo, adequate security will be provided for every participant at the competition to be flagged-off by the Supervising Minister/Chairman NSC, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi.
NAN reports that Philibus Sherubutu from Nasarawa won the 2011 edition in the male category.
