She revealed to Trustsports after the 10,000 metre race that her sister, the former Nigerian athletics icon, Falilat has been a great source of inspiration and guidance to her.
According to her, when she first started, she used to train at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, but could not keep count of how many times she had completed the track race until her sister stepped in and groomed her to a medal winning-athlete.
Ruqayat, a gold medal winner at the Lagos State Sports Festival and LASU Sports Festival, said she intend to go into full time athletics after he graduation.
According to Ruqayat, who also finished 26 at the South African Cross Country Race, said this year’s WAUG is her first major athletics competition.

Legendary Falilat Ogunkoya’s younger sister, Ruqayat Ogunkoya has won the gold medal in the 10,000 metres female race and silver medal in the 5,000 metres at the o13th West Africa University Games which ended yesterday in Ilorin.
