Lawal describes Eagles 2013 AFCON group as dicey

As reactions continue to trail Wednesday draws for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, former Super Eagles player, Garba Lawal has said the group comprising of Nigeria, Zambia, Burkina-Faso and Ethiopia is a dicey one.
Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, the former international said anybody who knows what is going on in world football will not make the mistake of saying the group is a walk over for the Super Eagles.Lawal explained a group that includes the defending champions of a championship like the Africa Nations Cup cannot be described as an easy one.
He said all the teams in the group deserve to be respected and if any is singled out as weak and easy to beat, then something is wrong somewhere.
The former Roda JC of Holland star said even apart from the Chipolopolo of Zambia, Burkina-Faso and Ethiopia will give the Super Eagles a run for their money.
“It will be a grave mistake for anybody to think the Super Eagles have got an easy group. The group is not easy when it has the defending champion. To me all the countries are the same and should be given equal respect.
“If anybody tells me that the group is an easy one, I will definitely feel something is wrong somewhere. You cannot look at countries like Zambia, Burkina-Faso and Ethiopia and then tell me that it is going to be a walk over group for the Super Eagles”.
Lawal who is a member of the NFF technical committee however said if they put their acts together, the Super Eagles can move out of the group and also go far in the championship.
“It is a tough group but if the Eagles can put their acts together, they can come out of the group. What they need is early preparations and more commitment. I have not been convinced about the commitment on the part of the players”.
