Obudu mountain race: winners to grab N24.7m

The sum of N15 million has been set aside for both male and female athletes that would emerge star winners of this year’s 8th Obudu Mountain race 2012, commissioner of sports and youth development in Cross River State, Patrick Ugbe has confirmed.
Addressing journalists in Obudu, the commissioner said the winner in the male category will smile home with the sum of 50,000 dollars and the female counterpart will also go home with the same amount.The runner up in both categories will also win 20,000 dollars apiece, while the 3rd place winners will get 9,000 dollars. Ugbe also confirmed that even the 10th place winner in both categories would go home with 1,000 dollars.
“Nigerian best finishers in both men and women categories will be compensated in addition with extra sum of 2,000 dollars while the second and third place winners will also smile home with extra $1500 and $1000 in both categories.
“The winners in the 4th African Nations mountain running championship will go home with equivalent of N9.7 million as follows: $30,000 will go to both male and female that win the first prize. The 2nd and 3rd runners up will also be given $10,000 each for both male and female and $7,500 each for male and female in the 3rd place”, he said.
For the media race, the sum of $2000 will go to the first place winner. Second and third place winners would also win $1500 and $1000 respectively.
Ugbe said that in the children category whose participants are mainly those from the Obudu neighbourhood, the winner will get N100,000, runner up N80,000 and the 3rd place N50,000.000.
