Sarki Muhammad Azare in his write-up on Yuguda in the Weekly Trust of December 25, 2010 couldn’t disguise his fear of the rising profile of Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda.
People like him fought tooth and nail to create bad blood between Yuguda and President Jonathan but all to no avail. Their effort was rewarded by making Yuguda to become the North–East Zonal coordinator for Jonathan/Sambo presidential bid. They hate to see Yuguda in Abuja because they know his presence will scuttle their evil design against him. The recent North-East Zonal stakeholders dialogue President Jonathan had with the entire who-is-who in the zone, had given the president a clearer view and insight into Yuguda’s capacity and mobilization capability to rally round the people behind him in spite of the presence of Atiku in the same zone.But the Bauchi people know better and that’s why they have neither lodged a complaint nor delegated people like Sarki to talk on their behalf. Infact the North-East Campaign office and structures are the best in the entire Federation because Yuguda always throws in his best at whatever challenges or assignment given to him.
The Yankari power holding plant which Sarki is making a political gimmick out of is a reality. The Honorable Commissioner for power and solid minerals, Engineer Usman Aliyu Muhammad assured that the Yuguda administration has already signed a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese Company while all the machineries are at hand waiting for shipment. As a confirmation of Malam Isa Yuguda’s prudence on financial transactions, the commissioner observed that the delay on take–off of the project is solely because of the governor’s insistence that no tax payers money is used to finance the project. The government is to provide 15% of the cost while the remaining 85% is to be provided by the Chinese Firm. Sarki and his cohorts must know that power project is not akin to purchase of a chicken in the market.
For God’s sake where is the tax payers money that Sarki is making a political gimmick out of? Infact, according to the commissioner even the 15% cost to be provided by government is yet to be redeemed because both the UBA and Stanbic Banks (providers of the loan) are processing the instruments to that effect. Engineer Usman Aliyu described Sarki’s allegation as “rubbish and Malicious” because while the project has the blessings of the Federal Government the bond which is to be used to finance the project is almost ready.
Governor Yuguda will long be remembered by the Bauchi people for his great foresight in conceiving the idea of building a refinery for a state that is well known for its large deposits of oil that is yet to be explored.
On assumption of office, the governor promised to build the refinery and like the true gentlemen that he is, he kept to his promise and today the project is on sound footing. Refinery is like Rome, which is not built in a day, and no matter what detractors will say to the contrary, the building of a refinery in Bauchi which the Yuguda administration is committed to making as a matter of reality must pass through stages. Even the federal government had bitter experiences in the building and maintenance of both the Kaduna and Warri refineries. Already, the project has the blessings of the federal government through its grant of licence while the equity partners and the state government are at hand for the actualization of that golden dream. Unknown to Sarki and his band of fellow critics, Lagos state which receives monthly allocation of 18 billion naira, compared to Bauchi with only 3 billion naira, is yet to actualize its dream of a power plant for its citizens let alone build a refinery in a very short time. Yet as John Mason observed, “The greatest assassins of dreams is haste, the desire to reach things before the right time”. Yuguda is a successful man who showed the stuff he was made of in his exciting banking career and the ministerial positions he held before he became governor.
Any worthwhile project requires patience to accomplish and no sensible person will expect a miracle to happen in just less than four years, unless one is being mischievous. That’s true also of the airport project. However, the case of the University, the state governor had during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s Independence reiterated the resolve of his administration to actualize the university project in Azare, particularly with the upgrade of Government Technical Collage, Gadau which will form the nucleus of the university.
Malam Isa Yuguda is sure of getting the mandate of the Bauchi people for a second term, God willing. No amount of political gimmick by foot soldiers will cause a set–back to the Yuguda project. It is surprising that Sarki should be made to talk about the Kafin Zaki dam project of which Malam Isa Yuguda has suffered so much in terms of political bashing from the combined forces of detractors opposed to the construction of the dam. It is worthy of note that even Mr. President during his stakeholder meeting with PDP delegates in Bauchi has restated the commitment of the government to resolve areas of disagreement for the quick take off of the project. At the heat of such crisis, generated by Yuguda’s personal concern and commitment to improve the quality of lives of both Bauchi and Yobe States people through the proposed building of Kafin Zaki dam, Yuguda was nearly declared as an outcast for his devotion to that cause. Kafin Zaki dam will be a success and a major vanguard for the accelerated development of the North-East sub region. Thanks to Governor Yuguda’s irrevocable commitment to its actualization.
If Bauchi people are truly now more politically conscious than ever before as Sarki will want the world to believe and which is true, it is because Yuguda made them to be so in 2007 when he led them to victory and established a government that not only restored their hope in government but strove hard to fulfill on his electoral mandate. Truly, Yuguda has etched his name in the political firmament in Bauchi State as he has never been associated with either cowardice, failure or escapism in all his life. Yuguda is noted for consistency, courage and the provision of qualitative leadership reinforced by sincerity. The genuineness of the Yuguda foray into Bauchi politics can be gleaned from the astounding quality governance he is offering with impressive record of accomplishments that cannot easily be wished away by the pen of hatchet and naive phantom hackers like Sarki who front for cowardly masters.
