The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has fixed April 27, 2013 for 27 Local Government Councils and councillorship elections.
Chairman of the commission Barr. Teddy Akwari disclosed this to Weekly Trust yesterday in his office Owerri shortly after a meeting with chairmen or representatives of political parties in the state. He said the April 27 election would be conducted in the wards including the newly created ISIEC political wards across the state.
He said the attendance of political parties in the meeting was very encouraging with a good number of party members physically present for the meeting.
Meanwhile, the chairman of All Nigeria People Party (ANPP) Dr. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe has denied attending the meeting by his party members.
He accused ISIEC of constituting illegality, adding that their constitution by the state government was illegal because the tenure of the former ISIEC has not yet expired.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) also said his part cannot attend such meeting because it is a contempt of court.
