Sallah celebration or mourning?

During the observance of the fast in the sacred month of Ramadan, many national dailies reported how many Nigerians could not afford the basic necessities to properly observe the religious injunction of abstaining from food and drink from dawn till sunset.

This occurred due to so many reasons. Among them is the global economic crisis. Inspite of the worsening condition of the Nigerian masses nothing has been done by the government to offer any succour to them. As if to add salt to injury, some states could not even pay their workers in advance or grant them subsidy to enable them celebrate the Sallah holidays like some privileged few Nigerians. As a result, many of them had to borrow from elsewhere to fulfil their obligations to their families. This nonchalant attitude on the part of our leaders indicates their insensitiveness to the plight of the masses. This calls for a massive commitment on the part of the followership of this country to fight against the present bad governance that subjugates them in the vicious hold of man-made penury.
