Speaking to Hoops Center, a member of the coaching crew of Royal Hoopers, Coach Tekena Okumgba said with the recruitment of Coach Ugoh from Ebun Comets of Lagos, the Port-Harcourt based club will give the rest of the clubs a run for their money.
He stated that the highly experienced coach has arrived the Garden City with some of the players who worked with him in Comet and their presence will make a lot of difference.
The coach maintained that by the time the new coach receives the necessary support from the assistants he is going to work with; he will surely produce a team that will be a hard nut to crack.
Coach Okumgba noted that Royal Hoopers players were in high spirit and can not wait for the league to commence.
His words: “We are fully ready for the league. It may interest you to know that in order to beef up the technical department of the team, the management has engaged the services of a highly experienced coach in person of Coach Ugoh who handled Ebun Comets last season. He has a lot of experience and his presence in our team is a morale booster.
“In addition, the coach has arrived with some of the players who worked with him in Comet and they are going to add value to the playing staff. We have respect for the so called big clubs in the league but we are not going to allow anybody to intimidate us. It is going to be man to man and the best will always come out tops.
Coach Okumgba said the postponement of the league which was to dunk off this weekend has given the club ample opportunity to fine tune its preparations.
He said: “The fact is that we were ready to start this weekend but the federation has shifted the league by one week which is still okay. It is an opportunity for clubs to put finishing touches to their preparations”.
The coach who has been seconded to the Rivers State basketball team for the 2010 National Sports festival expressed confidence that Royal Hoopers will spring some surprises in the league as he maintained that Royal Hoopers are in a killer mood.
